Some items related to the planning for our project exhibition, planned for the first full week in May (5th - 9th).
Weekly Collaborative
Tentatively, we're looking at Tuesday from 4-6pm at Jefferson in Mt. Shasta for a time to get GECS and Jefferson crews together to work on the exhibition.
Box Of Videoness (BOV)
Long and short: A physical device/box/installation to present the videos, sounds, images, remixes, and questions from Siskiyou Cty and HK/mainland China. Not just a screen on the wall: we want the audience to be brought into close contact with it... thinking in terms of looking into a box with two (or more?) screens inside presenting material from California and China side-by-side. Emotive, non-narrative.
* Emily will mock up a couple design ideas by next Tuesday (Apr. 8)
* Matt's thinking about what to present on the screens, how to work in questions and voices in the videos, etc
Some questions:
- Do we want our audience to interact with it somehow? How can we capture that interaction? What kind of record would we hope to gather? record their voices? ask them to write answers to some of the project questions?
Long and short: A mural / wall installation / collage of images from the whole project. The skies, colors, buildings, trees, faces, feet, roads, and refuse of Siskiyou County, HK, and mainland China are sliced, patched, cut, and pasted into a single whole. We're shooting for floor to ceiling, with ambient sounds from all over as a backdrop. Maybe installed on foam panels so it can be easily moved to other exhibition locations?
* Jessie and Michelle are working on ideas for this
* Teddy has offerred to take more photos
Together: BOVINE (in other words, we need some volunteers to form a marketing dept to rename these things and give the exhibition a name!)
* Amanda will look at how to integrate the questions/answers into the experience of the whole exhibition -- perhaps this on place where our audience can voice their input?
* Aaron is getting wrapped into the technical end of the video installation, among other things
Other ideas, inspirations, etc
* Cargo container: anyone know a way to get access to an empty shipping container? A friend had the great idea to install this exhibition in a shipping container so it could be plopped down wherever we see fit.. Lake Street in Mt. Shasta, at the 4th of July, on a freighter headed to China, etc.
* A little moving image montage/collage of Nathan's on his way back to Mt. Shasta from SF after flying in from HK (thinking along these lines for further video stuff and the imagewall thing):
