Flow and Logistics

Project Flow
• Identify 5 students in Mt. Shasta, California and 5 students in China
 
• Participants interact online to decide what will be the focus or theme (ex: "what's important to me here?", or "rituals", or "free time", or ...)
 
• Each students records ~30 minutes of raw video, 10 minutes of raw sound
 
• US <-> China swap raw material
 
• Students edit a short (2-3 minute) piece from their international peer's material; facilitators film the students' reactions and process
 
• We collaboratively create a single, final piece to give others a glimpse into the experience of bridging these cultures
 
Requirements    
Technical:
• NTSC video camera (mini-DV) 
• mp3/wav audio recorder
• Computer, video editing software
 
 
Students:
• Excited to learn about own community and reach out to peers abroad
• Able to make a commitment for 10-20 hours of project time

 

 

Facilitators in China and US:
• Develop connection to 5 students
• Travel as needed to work with students
• Run introductory workshop to motivate topic of cultural exchange; provide training for basic video shooting and editing
• Document the students' process as they go along
